Corners only? Amad Diallo mocks Arsenal after Man United stun league leaders at the Emirates
Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has aimed a cheeky dig at Arsenal following their dramatic 3-2 victory at the Emirates Stadium, suggesting the Premier League leaders have become overly reliant on set pieces for goals.
The Red Devils continued their impressive start under interim manager Michael Carrick, making it two wins from two with another eye catching away performance. Diallo was heavily involved on the right flank, playing 88 minutes and once again underlining his importance in Carrick’s system.
Arsenal’s attacking struggles have become an increasing talking point in recent weeks. Despite boasting one of the league’s highest goal tallies, several of their key forwards are enduring prolonged goal droughts. Bukayo Saka, Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Martinelli have all failed to find the net consistently, while others such as Leandro Trossard and Noni Madueke have also struggled for end product.
What has kept Arsenal competitive is their extraordinary efficiency from set pieces. With 26 goals scored from dead ball situations this season, they lead all clubs across Europe’s top five leagues in that department. However, that reliance has also drawn criticism, with some suggesting their open play creativity has declined.
Diallo was quick to highlight that perception after full time. On social media platform X, the United winger replied to a fan by writing: “Your only hope is corner,” accompanied by a laughing emoji. He followed that up with another message telling Arsenal supporters to “be humble”, clearly enjoying the moment after the final whistle.
The 21 year old also revisited a pre match post from the same fan, who had confidently predicted a 4-0 Arsenal win. Diallo quoted the message with the actual final score attached, adding a brief caption that rubbed salt into the wound. The exchange quickly went viral, drawing reactions from supporters of both clubs.
On the pitch, Diallo’s form continues to justify Carrick’s faith in him. Having also started the Manchester derby the previous week, he has quickly become one of United’s most influential attacking players. Many expected him to struggle for minutes following Bryan Mbeumo’s arrival, but Carrick has found a way to accommodate both by deploying Mbeumo centrally.
After spending much of last season in a wing back role under Ruben Amorim, Diallo now looks revitalised in a more advanced position. His confidence appears to be growing with each game, both on and off the field.
For Arsenal, the defeat has raised fresh questions about their attacking balance, while for United, moments like Diallo’s online jibe reflect a renewed belief that Carrick’s side are once again enjoying their football.
