Lewandowski dropped from Barcelona plans as talks open with Serie A top striker
Blaugrana are already planning beyond the current season, and their latest target highlights a clear intention to refresh the attacking line. According to reports from Spain, the Catalan giants have opened preliminary contacts regarding Dusan Vlahovic, whose contract with Juventus expires in June 2026. With the Serbian forward entering the final phase of his deal, Barca see a rare market opportunity to secure a proven number nine at a reduced cost.
The club’s sporting department has been working for months on scenarios that could unfold if Robert Lewandowski does not renew his contract. While the Polish striker’s numbers remain respectable, his role has diminished in several matches this season, with Ferran Torres often preferred by Hansi Flick in key moments. That situation has pushed Barcelona to explore alternatives capable of leading the attack in the medium to long term.
Vlahovic fits that profile. Signed by Juventus from Fiorentina for close to 80 million euros, he was once considered one of the most valuable strikers in Serie A. However, negotiations over a contract extension stalled last summer, leaving Juventus in a delicate position. With no renewal agreed, the Italian club risk losing him for free if they do not act soon. Barcelona’s strategy is clear. Ideally, they would wait until the summer window and attempt to sign Vlahovic on a free transfer. Alternatively, they could push for a January move under highly favorable financial conditions, knowing Juventus may prefer to cash in rather than lose the player for nothing.
From Blaugrana’s perspective, the Serbian striker also represents one of the few elite level forwards potentially available without a massive transfer fee. Although Vlahovic earned one of the highest salaries in Serie A, sources suggest he would be willing to accept a more balanced wage structure at Camp Nou in exchange for a leading role in a new project.
That said, Vlahovic’s current season has not been smooth. He has struggled for consistency, scoring three goals in Serie A and three in the Champions League, while also dealing with an adductor injury that is expected to sideline him until early 2026. Despite this, Barcelona believe his age, physical profile, and previous output make him a calculated gamble worth taking.
As for Lewandowski, the striker himself recently admitted he remains unsure about his future, insisting any decision will depend on both the club’s plans and his own ambitions. With time still on their side, Barcelona appear determined to stay ahead of the curve, and their early move for Vlahovic underlines a proactive approach to shaping the next phase of their attack.
