Ronaldo statue set ON FIRE in chilling stunt as police hunt vandal behind disturbing video!
A bizarre and disturbing act of vandalism has sent shockwaves across the football world after a statue of Cristiano Ronaldo was set on fire in his home island of Madeira. Portuguese police have launched a manhunt after footage circulated online showing a young man dousing a bronze statue of the legendary footballer with a flammable liquid before setting it alight.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning near the CR7 Museum in Funchal, a site dedicated to celebrating Ronaldo’s iconic career. In the now viral video, the suspect appears disheveled as he pours liquid over the statue and ignites it with a lighter. As flames engulf the sculpture, the man narrowly avoids setting himself on fire before backing away and performing an erratic dance to loud rap music playing from a portable speaker he brought with him.
The footage was uploaded to Instagram, where the individual, using the username “zaino.tcc.filipe”, shared the clip with his followers alongside a cryptic caption reading: “This is God’s last warning.” The unsettling message has only added to the alarm surrounding the incident.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspect has been identified and is known to police due to previous incidents, although he had not yet been apprehended at the time of reporting. A spokesperson for the CR7 Museum said the matter is now in the hands of law enforcement and declined to comment further.
It remains unclear whether the statue suffered permanent damage. Although flames briefly covered much of the sculpture, they reportedly died down quickly. Officials are assessing the condition of the monument.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage among Ronaldo fans, many of whom flooded the vandal’s social media accounts with angry responses. Several users condemned the act as disrespectful and attention seeking, while others expressed concern over the individual’s mental state. One fan wrote that the act was “unnecessary and all for likes”, while another stated bluntly that the man “needs help”.
This is not the first time a statue of Ronaldo in Madeira has been targeted. Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, previously reacted angrily to the earlier attack, calling the vandals “savages” and defending her brother’s legacy and contribution to the island’s global recognition.
The statue involved in the latest incident was unveiled in 2014 and quickly became a tourist attraction, drawing attention both for honoring the football icon and for its exaggerated design features. While it has often been mocked online, it remains a symbol of Ronaldo’s deep connection to Madeira.
Cristiano Ronaldo, now playing for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, has not publicly commented on the incident. However, the attack has once again highlighted the darker side of fame and the extreme behavior it can provoke.
As police continue their investigation, fans and locals alike are hoping the vandal is swiftly brought to justice and that the statue, much like Ronaldo’s legacy, remains standing despite repeated attacks.
